Arizona rises to No. 14 in latest AP Poll

The Wildcats move up three spots after taking down ASU

The Arizona Wildcats have moved up three spots in the AP Poll after beating the Arizona State Sun Devils, now checking in at No. 14 in the rankings.

Meanwhile, ASU only fell one spot after its loss — from No. 3 to No. 4.

The full poll is below.

Michigan State has overtaken Villanova for the No. 1 spot. Texas A&M, which Arizona beat in Phoenix in early December, sits three spots ahead of Arizona.

  1. Michigan State (43)
  2. Duke (21)
  3. Villanova (1)
  4. ASU
  5. Xavier
  6. West Virginia
  7. Oklahoma
  8. Virginia
  9. Wichita State
  10. Kansas
  11. Texas A&M
  12. North Carolina
  13. Purdue
  14. Arizona
  15. Miami
  16. TCU
  17. Kentucky
  18. Texas Tech
  19. Gonzaga
  20. Cincinnati
  21. Seton Hall
  22. Arkansas
  23. Tennessee
  24. Florida State
  25. Clemson

This has been an unusual year in college basketball, as every Division I team lost a game before January for the first time in the AP Poll era (since 1948-49).

It also hasn’t been a good season for the Pac-12 as the Arizona schools are the only ones ranked in the Top 25.

For that reason, Arizona isn’t slated to face another ranked team until Feb. 15 when it rematches ASU in Tempe.

The Wildcats (11-3) have won eight straight since dropping three straight in the Bahamas and isn’t far-fetched to believe their winning streak could reach an astronomical number because of the ease of their schedule.

ASU has the exact same schedule, so perhaps those teams will both be in top 10 — or even top five — when they meet again.
