Arizona, Les Miles have mutual interest, per report

The parties are reportedly in communication

The Arizona Wildcats have been in contact with ex-LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles, who is interested in replacing the recently-fired Rich Rodriguez, according to Neal McCready of Rivals.com.

Miles, 64, sat out the 2017 season after coaching at LSU from 2005-2016, but McCready reports Miles “wants to get back on the field.”

Miles posted a 114-34 record in 12 seasons at LSU and won two SEC titles (2007, 2011) and a national championship with the Tigers.

Before that, Miles coached at Oklahoma State where he compiled a 28-21 record in four seasons.

Miles won eight or more games in every season at LSU, besides the 2016 season when he was fired after LSU started 2-2. Miles was let go by LSU because of offensive struggles and “his refusal to adapt.”

Still, it is not everyday Arizona has a chance to land a coach who has won on the biggest stages of college football, so it’s easy to see how Miles could be one of UA’s top candidates.

Another report Tuesday night suggested Arizona would consider hiring ex-Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin to replace Rodriguez. The details from that report can be found here.

Rodriguez was fired Tuesday due to sexual harassment allegations against him, though he has denied them.
