Jamarye Joiner lands offer from Nebraska; Arizona offers two offensive linemen

Here are a couple of tidbits from the recruiting trail

The Arizona Wildcats signed a little over 70 percent of their 2018 class last week during the early signing period. There were only a handful of commits who didn’t sign, and one picked up an important offer Thursday.

That was Cienega quarterback Jamarye Joiner who added an offer from the Nebraska Cornhuskers and their new head coach Scott Frost.

The Cornhuskers had been linked to Joiner even before Frost took over. It sounds like Joiner will be visiting Lincoln in January when he is also slated to officially visit the UA.

Joiner is still committed to Arizona, but he has made it known that he will continue to explore his options until the February signing period, looking to pick up as many offers (to play quarterback) as he can.

ASU offered Joiner when head coach Todd Graham was still in charge and the Tucson native strongly considered flipping his commitment after the Sun Devils beat the Wildcats for the Territorial Cup.

It will be interesting to see how everything shapes up, but for the time being, I’ll stick with my gut feeling that Joiner will sign with Arizona in February.

Arizona, Garin Justice offer two offensive linemen

It’s only been a little over a week since Arizona hired Garin Justice as its new offensive line coach, but he is already hitting the recruiting trail.

Arizona recently offered offensive tackles Doug Johnson and Travis Glover. Justice recruited both players before he arrived in Tucson from FAU.

At 6-foot-6 and 325 pounds, Johnson is a mountain of a human being and it shows on the field. He is a rather difficult individual to get around if you are a linebacker or d-end. He has decent footwork and uses his hands well. He also has a large amount of raw power that comes out in his game. He is actually a decent looking prospect whose technique could use a little fine-tuning.

The Fort White, Florida native is unranked by 247Sports, but holds offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia, Louisville, Utah, and Florida among others, per 247Sports.

Glover, a Vienna, Georgia product, is more of a project than Johnson. He is a raw talent, as his footwork and overall technique need a lot of work.

However, at 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, he is a big, powerful lineman. In fact, he relies on his strength to overpower his opponents. It does work in high school, but at the collegiate level it will not.

Glover is unranked by 247Sports, too, but he does hold offers from schools like Mississippi State, UCF, and Oregon State.
