Arizona loses offensive line coach Jim Michalczik to Oregon State

Michalczik has been Arizona’s o-line coach since 2013

Arizona Wildcats offensive line coach Jim Michalczik is leaving for Oregon State, it was reported Tuesday by Danny Moran of the Oregonian.

Football Scoop reports Michalczik will be an associate head coach under first-year head coach Jonathan Smith in addition to offensive line coach and run game coordinator.

This will be Michalczik’s second stint at Oregon State as he coached there from 1999 to 2001 as the tight ends, special teams, and offensive line coach.

The 51-year-old has been Arizona’s offensive line coach under Rich Rodriguez since 2013.

It is unclear who will replace Michalczik, but the Arizona Daily Star listed former UA standout and NFL lineman Glenn Parker as an option. Parker recently joined the staff as an analyst, though he does not have any collegiate coaching experience.

The Wildcats are set to lose four of five starters on their offensive line (though Layth Friekh might get a fifth year) so the unit will look vastly different next season.

Arizona has three offensive line commits in 2018 and one, Amphitheater High School's David Watson, has expressed concern about Michalczik’s departure.

Michalczik is from Port Angeles, Washington and graduated from Washington State in 1988, so his roots to the Pacific Northwest run deep.

His salary at Arizona was $310,000, per USA Today.
