Alex Barcello (ankle) out vs. New Mexico; Rawle Alkins to start
Some lineup changes in Albuquerque
Arizona Wildcats freshman point guard Alex Barcello will miss Saturday’s road game against the New Mexico Lobos with a left ankle sprain, reports Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star.
Pascoe reports Barcello injured his ankle in practice last week which limited his availability against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The freshman played just four minutes in that contest.
It is unclear when Barcello will return. Allonzo Trier will likely take over backup point guard duties in his stead.
In other news, Rawle Alkins will make his first start of the season Saturday, taking Brandon Randolph’s place at small forward.
Alkins played 22 minutes in his season debut last Saturday against Alabama, and head coach Sean Miller said Wednesday that he felt the sophomore was ready to be inserted into the starting lineup.
It will be interesting to see how Randolph fares off the bench. He has played well of late, scoring in double figures in four of the last five games.
Tip-off against the Lobos is set for 6 p.m. MST and the game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
