Arizona’s players of the game vs. Colorado

Looking at which Wildcats stood out in UA’s 45-42 win

The Arizona Wildcats came into Boulder hoping for their first conference win of the season....and they got it. The ‘Cats left with a 45-42 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes to improve to 1-1 in Pac-12 play.

Let’s take a look at which UA players stood out.

Offense: Khalil Tate, QB

Game stats: 11-for-12, 142 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT; 14 car, 327 yds, 4 TD

I mean, not much needs to be said. Tate set an FBS record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a game with 327, with 4 touchdown runs of 20+ yards.

He was 11-for-12 for 142 yards and a score through the air. His only incompletion? A dropped pass that hit Tyrell Johnson in the hands. And Tate had a beautiful 60-yard pass down the field to Tony Ellison.

All the highlights from Tate’s record-breaking night can be found here.

Defense: Jace Whittaker, CB

Game stats: 3 tackles, 3 PBUs

The defense had some issues in the second half, but Whittaker had a pretty good game.

He had two key pass breakups late in the game — one was a sure touchdown for CU standout receiver Shay Fields in the back of the end zone, the other was a great read by Whittaker to come around and knock the ball out of Fields’ hands on a pass in the flat.

Special Teams: Josh Pollack, K

Game stats: FG — 1-for-1 (24 yds); PAT — 6-for-6

Pollack had a better game. He knocked all his PATs through and was a perfect 1-for-1 on his field goals. None of his field goals or PATs were blocked which was a sign of progress in its own right.

Honorable Mentions

The Offensive Line: I mean, did you see the holes Tate had to run through?

Justin Belknap, DE: 2 tackles, 1.0 TFL, 1.0 sacks

Tony Fields II, LB: 11 tackles, 1.0 TFL, 1.0 sacks

Scottie Young Jr.: 11 tackles, 1.5 TFL
