Arizona football: Cam Denson dealing with foot injury, could redshirt in 2017

The senior did not play vs. NAU

Despite routing NAU by 38 and having nearly an entire second half of so-called garbage time, Cam Denson did not play for the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday.

The senior wide receiver isn’t listed on UA’s depth chart, either, and head coach Rich Rodriguez said Monday that Denson is “still a little bit nicked up” with a foot injury.

“He’s not been healthy since camp started with his foot,” Rodriguez said. “It’s kind of a week to week thing. He can certainly help us when he’s healthy.”

Which could be next season, apparently, as Rodriguez said Denson could redshirt in 2017.

“He hasn’t done a redshirt year yet, but we’re really just waiting to see how day to day, week to week goes to get him healthy,” Rodriguez said.

Denson suffered the foot injury last spring and Rodriguez said at the beginning of fall camp that the Salpointe Catholic product was being limited in individual workouts.

Denson, a former four-star recruit, made three starts last season and caught 15 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns.

The Tucson native spent his first two seasons at Arizona at cornerback before making the switch to wide receiver in the spring of 2016.
