Arizona football recruiting: 3-star cornerback McKenzie Barnes commits to Wildcats

Arizona lands its 11th commitment for 2018

On Saturday, the Arizona Wildcats added their 11th commitment in their 2018 class, landing McKenzie Barnes, a 3-star cornerback from Edison High School (Fresno, Calif).

Barnes is the No. 151 cornerback in the country, according to Scout.com.

Barnes’ recruitment came down to three schools, with the ‘Cats joined by Oregon and Washington State.

“The trip was pretty good,” Barnes said earlier this week about his visit to Arizona. “I got a lot of one-on-one time with coaches and some of the players.”

Barnes has also established great relationships with multiple coaches on the staff including Vince Amey, Marcel Yates, and Chris Singletary. An aspect that really stood out to him during his trip to campus at the end of July was an education and life skills meeting he attended.

“They asked me a couple of my goals and they set out a plan for me to accomplish them,” Barnes said. “It was a one-on-one experience.”

Barnes has good size and good speed that helps in the secondary. He does need work on his man-to-man coverage skills and turning his hips around.

Overall, I do think it is a good pickup for the ‘Cats, but he will need some development at the next level to reach his full potential.
