Arizona football recruiting: 3-star defensive tackle Josh Walker commits to Wildcats

Most felt he was going to pick Arizona State

The Arizona Wildcats have landed yet another commitment this week, as three-star defensive tackle Josh Walker pledged his commitment to Rich Rodriguez on Tuesday morning.

Walker hails from football powerhouse IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL) and is ranked No. 54 among all defensive tackles in the nation, and No. 743 overall in the 2018 class.

He holds over 40 offers, including Arizona State, Nebraska, Michigan State, Notre Dame and UCLA, among many others.

Just last week at IMG Academy’s Media Day, eight of Walker’s teammates believed he was heading to Arizona State, as did two other Crystal Ball “experts”. His top eight list consisted of Baylor, Florida, ASU, Nebraska, South Carolina, Wake Forest and Texas A&M.

Walker checks in at 6-foot-2, 285 pounds, a much-needed addition to the defensive line. He transferred from Carrollton High School (Carrollton, GA). Defensive stats are not properly available.

IMG Academy is an interesting institution. It’s a football recruiting hotspot that flocks dozens of programs. Last recruiting cycle, Arizona landed three-star defensive tackle Elijah Watson, who the staff later backed off of due to off-field issues.

Given the state of Arizona’s program, including the future of both Rodriguez and defensive line coach Vince Amey, and the nature of IMG’s recruiting cycle, this is far from a done deal.

For now, though, Walker is Arizona’s ninth commit of the 2018 recruiting class.
