Arizona football recruiting: 2018 cornerback McKenzie Barnes has Wildcats in top 3

Arizona is up against Oregon and Washington State for the California cornerback

The college football season hasn’t started yet, but the Arizona Wildcats are already in a battle with two Pac-12 foes.

2018 cornerback prospect McKenzie Barnes will choose between Arizona, Oregon, and Washington State, he announced Sunday on Twitter.

Barnes is expected to make his decision on Aug. 12.

A two-star prospect, Barnes is the No. 220 cornerback in the country, according to 247Sports.

He is listed at 6-feet, 170 pounds by 247Sports, but 6-foot-2, 175 pounds by Rivals. Barnes attends Edison High School in Fresno, Calif.

“He has nice length, is very fluid in his movement and shows a burst getting in and out of his breaks,” writes Scout’s Greg Biggins. “He has been coached up by well renowned Fresno DB coach Tony Perry and shows great footwork and technique and plays with a physical edge to his game.”

Barnes told Scout.com that his favorite part about visiting Arizona was the academic advisers.

“I saw through a life skills meeting that was very impressive and I learned a lot,” he said. “They asked us to tell them what our academic goals are and then we went over how we can achieve them so it was a great meeting for me."

Arizona is the only school in Barnes’ top three that he has visited, but he said plans to take his official visits in the fall.

Four Crystal Ball predictions have been made regarding Barnes’ recruitment, and three of them project he will commit to Arizona.

The Wildcats currently have nine commitments in their 2018 class. 247Sports has Arizona’s class ranked 73rd in the country and ninth in the Pac-12.
