Simon will reportedly be replacing Theo Robertson, who worked in player development for the Lakers before joining the California Golden Bears’ coaching staff this offseason.
Simon becomes the fourth Arizona product on the Lakers’ coaching staff, with head coach Luke Walton and assistants Jesse Mermuys and Jud Buechler being the other three.
Simon has been a college basketball analyst for ESPN since 2008 and currently coaches the California Supreme U17 AAU team. He also was the head coach of the 2017 USA Junior National Select Team for the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit.
Prior to that he was an assistant coach at Arizona from 2005 to 2008 under Lute Olson and is most known for being a key part of the Wildcats’ 1997 championship team.
The Lakers also worked out Kadeem Allen on Tuesday, so maybe they’re not done adding former Arizona Wildcats this offseason.
