Arizona football: Three Wildcats on Athlon’s preseason All-Pac-12 teams

This is the fewest by any team in the conference

On Thursday, Athlon released its preseason All-Pac-12 teams, which goes four deep at every position.

There are three Arizona Wildcats that made the cut. Jacob Alsadek was named a third-team offensive lineman, while Nick Wilson and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles were named fourth-teamers at their positions.

It’s also worth nothing that Brandon Dawkins is gracing the cover of the magazine itself, though it appears to be an Arizona-specific cover since Kalen Ballage is also on it.

However, the three players Arizona had named here is the fewest of any team in the conference. U of A is also the only team no not have any players on the first or second teams. Even Cal has a first-team kicker and Oregon State has a second-team running back.

Coincidentally, Bill Connelly put out his Arizona statistical preview on Wednesday. Bill C dishes out the reality on how Arizona has never sustained success as a program.

A decent head coach can push the boulder up the hill in Tucson, but one stumble, and it rolls all the way back down. Nobody loses it like Arizona, and when it’s lost, it takes a while to get found.

On the “bright side”, the projections are thinking Arizona will have many close games, and the projected win total sits at 5.6. If the Cats can pull out a couple close wins, maybe a bowl game is in the near future? Maybe?

I think everyone can agree that if Arizona commits to the run game (even at the quarterback position), the offense could get things turned around in a hurry. If Wilson and J.J. Taylor stay healthy, and guys like Zach Green and Nathan Tilford contribute early and often, we could at least see some entertaining games in 2017.
