Arizona baseball: Wildcats hang on to top 20 ranking

Arizona is still 12th in the RPI though

After being swept by the Stanford Cardinal in Palo Alto, the Arizona Wildcats dropped to 9-12 in conference play, but it’s not time to sound the alarm bells yet.

Arizona is still ranked right around 20th in the most reputable human polls, and the Wildcats are still a top-12 team in the RPI, which is the most important metric anyway.

So here’s a look at the new rankings after a 1-3 week:

Stanford solidified itself as a consensus top-15 team, while Oregon State still sits at the top of the polls.

Perhaps one thing that will ease the minds of Arizona fans is that the majority of the teams it has struggled against are also highly ranked. So far, the Wildcats have played the sixth-toughest schedule in the country, and have come out with a 27-15 overall record. Compare that with a team like Rice, who has played the fourth-hardest schedule, but only has an 18-26 record to show for it.

Arizona plays another game in the Bay Area on Monday before returning to Tucson. They’ll take on Santa Clara at 3 PM PT. Then the Washington Huskies come to Hi Corbett for a three-game series from Friday-Sunday.
