Always Dreaming looks for Preakness Stakes victory

Trying to get the second leg of the Triple Crown

After winning The Kentucky Derby, Always Dreaming and trainer Todd Pletcher will look to capture the second leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday at The Preakness Stakes.

Here’s a look at the post positions with morning lines:

Classic Empire was the favorite at The Kentucky Derby, but finished fourth. Lookin at Lee actually finished second to Always Dreaming, and will go off from the ninth post position at Pimlico.

Pletcher, who is an Arizona alum, had three horses in The Kentucky Derby, and was originally supposed to have multiple horses in The Preakness, but will only run Always Dreaming this weekend.

There’s an extra layer to why Arizona fans should be rooting for Always Dreaming to pull this off. The three-year-old’s sire is Bodemeister, who was the runner-up in the 2012 Kentucky Derby, was trained by another Arizona alum in Bob Baffert.

So this is the ultimate U of A horse.

Horses that win the Derby tend to do well in the Preakness because the race lengths are so similar. Two weekends ago, Always Dreaming won the 1 1/4 mile race. This weekend, he’ll be asked to run 1 3/16 miles.
