Arizona Wildcats signee Brandon Randolph named MVP in Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game

The future Wildcat put on a show in Brooklyn

Brandon Randolph apparently wasn’t good enough to play in the Jordan Brand Classic National Game, so he went ahead and tore up the Regional Game.

The Arizona Wildcats’ signee scored a game-high 32 points on 16-26 shooting and had nine rebounds and two assists, earning MVP honors for the Regional Red team, which beat the Regional Blue 170-162 on Friday in Brooklyn.

Arizona State signee Kimani Lawrence was the Regional Blue’s MVP, as he had 27 points on 10-14 shooting plus five assists and four rebounds.

“We had a lot of fun out there,” said Randolph (via USA Today). “There was a lot of joking. But at the end of the game, we had to get this win.”

Randolph, a Yonkers, New York native, is the No. 34 player in the 2017 recruiting class and the eighth-best shooting guard, per 247Sports.com.

Randolph is listed at 6-foot-6, 183 pounds and told USA Today that he wants to bulk up before his playing days in Tucson begin.

“I know that once I get my body right, I’ll be ready to compete at the next level,” he said.

Sean Miller has called Randolph a “late bloomer,” and he is a key member to Arizona’s 2017 recruiting class, which is currently ranked third in the country.

“We identified Brandon in his junior year,” Miller said in November. “Brandon a year ago or two years ago wasn’t nearly as well thought of as he is today, he’s improved and come on the scene in a big, big way over the last two years. When we’ve learned of our own recruiting efforts, those who are on that fast track they seem to continue on that fast track. There’s a reason that all of a sudden they seem to go from nowhere to being one of the best players in high school basketball.”

Even though Randolph shot 0 for 4 from 3 in the Regional Game, he is highly-regarded as a shooter.

“Brandon, like Alex (Barcello), is an exceptional shooter,” Miller said. “Not a small 2-guard, more 6-5, 6-6, than he is 6-3 or 6-4. When you have that type of frame, strength and conditioning can really continue to give you additional skills that you may not have right now. He’s got a great frame. He’s a thin guy, but where his body will go over the next couple of years it’s very exciting to think about.

“He’s more than just a shooter, he’s a basketball player. He knows how to play, passes the ball, plays on one of the best high school teams in the country with several other very, very good basketball players, and that winning environment both on the travel team circuit and the highly-competitive environment in his high school, winning background, he's also a high-character kid, a great student with a tremendous family.

“We’re really, really excited to have him.”
