Arizona football recruiting SitRep: Wildcats offer top rated center in the West

It was a relatively slow week on the recruiting front

The Arizona Wildcats were on spring break this past week and that meant no spring practice and not much recruiting.

There were some offers sent out with one going to a big-time West Coast offensive lineman. So let’s delve into this week’s SitRep.

Justin Dedich

The number one center on the West Coast picked up an Arizona offer, bringing him to a total of 21 offers. It’s not a bad idea for the Wildcats to go in with Dedich this early especially since all schools are pretty much on equal ground for him.

Dedich does have interest in Arizona and one thing he particularly likes is the close proximity Tucson has to his home. Dedich and his family are looking to visit both Tucson and Tempe this summer, most likely in May. Getting Dedich on campus could go a long way in his recruitment.

2018 Recruiting Cycle

This recruiting cycle has a different feel overall to it. Unlike last year, Arizona seems to be more deliberate with the offers they are sending out.

I like the offers that have gone out so far. One thing that is blatantly apparent is that the Wildcats have turned their sights to Texas. I’m a little shocked at how few California/Arizona offers have gone out recently, but expect those offers to be flowing here in the near future. California and Arizona are important recruiting grounds for the Wildcats — too important — and I don’t foresee them ignoring these areas.

On another front, the hires that Rich Rodriguez has brought in should not only help on the field, but I feel that they’ll help on the recruiting trail as well. Scott Boone, for example, is a more solid recruiter than most people will give him credit for. He is the lead recruiter for 3-star Rancho Santa Margarita, CA athlete Malone Mataele and Boone has done a nice job with him so far.

Once Theron Aych and Brian Knorr get settled, it’ll be interesting to see them recruit. Aych’s main area will be Texas while Knorr will help with the Inland Empire and Texas. I expect more offers to flow once they get their feet under them in Tucson.

There have been two members of the Wildcat staff who have been quite busy the past few months. Rich Rodriguez and Chris Singletary have become more active on the recruiting trail and it has had a positive effect. Rodriguez offered and has stayed in communication with Tulare, CA ATH Kazmeir Allen and Las Vegas, NV WR Jaden Mitchell. Having the head coach of a program offer you makes a big impact on recruits and could lead to some positives in this cycle.

Bottom line, I believe the next few months will be extremely busy for RichRod and his staff.
