4-star quarterback Braxton Burmeister flips commitment from Arizona to Oregon

Another huge blow to Rich Rodriguez’s recruiting class

The Arizona Wildcats have lost yet another top prospect in this 2017 recruiting class, as four-star quarterback Braxton Burmeister has flipped to the Oregon Ducks.

The news was first reported by Wildcat Authority.

Burmeister was planning to enroll early at Arizona, but a report emerged last week that he was considering a change of heart after receiving a late offer from Oregon.

Akili Smith, his quarterback coach and former Duck, played a huge role in convincing Burmeister to attend his alma mater.

Burmeister had the second-highest ranking among recruits in the Wildcats’ class.

He had been committed to Arizona since his sophomore year of high school, but decommitted in the spring of his junior year, looking into Indiana, South Carolina, Utah, and Washington as schools of interest.

A couple weeks later, Burmeister ended up committing to Arizona once again.

The Wildcats’ recruiting class has now lost four-star corner Greg Johnson, three-star linebacker Delshawn Phillips, three-star defensive end Matt Leo, three-star wide receiver Darrian McNeal, three-star outside linebacker Bryce Brand, three-star defensive lineman Austin Faoliu, and two-star defensive tackle Elijah Watson.

Coming off a stellar senior campaign, Burmeister would have been in the mix to compete for the starting quarterback job. As of now, the staff will have three scholarship quarterbacks entering the 2017 season with redshirt junior Brandon Dawkins, sophomore Khalil Tate, and freshman Rhett Rodriguez.
