Arizona football recruiting: Donte’ Williams reportedly close to joining Nebraska’s coaching staff
If true, this would be a huge loss
Arizona Wildcats defensive backs coach Donte’ Williams is close to joining the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ coaching staff, according to HuskerOnline, the Rivals affiliate for Nebraska. Williams would be filling in for the special teams vacancy.

Williams, who was hired this past offseason from San Jose State, has been a huge contributor on and off the field, working with Dane Cruikshank and Jace Whittaker as the two premier corners for Arizona’s secondary in 2016.
Off the field, Williams has a reputation as one of the best recruiters in the west, and it shows in Arizona’s current recruiting class, currently ranked No. 20 in the nation. When I speak to recruits they always mention how great Williams is.
Williams has been the lead recruiter for Greg Johnson, Rhedi Short, Scott Young, Xavier Bell, Joshua Brown and plays an extremely large role among several other highly-touted targets. Williams was last in Los Angeles on Tuesday visiting Joshua Brown with Marcel Yates.
If this report is in fact true, it has huge implications for the future of the secondary and recruiting class at Arizona. I think you could see a wave of decommitments like we saw in the 2016 class. Recruits commit to a coaching staff, not a school, and I’m not entirely sure anyone would have seen this series of events unfold for Arizona.
