Arizona basketball recruiting: Wildcats sign DeAndre Ayton, Ira Lee, Brandon Randolph, and Alex Barcello

All four Letters of Intent are in

No drama to see here.

All four members of the nation’s current top-ranked recruiting class have signed with the Arizona Wildcats, as expected.

Now that they’re inked, here’s a brief roundup of the class:

Ira Lee

Lee brings an athletic and high-motor style to the court. His ability to play on the wing and in the post will make him a valuable component throughout his tenure in Tucson. I envision him as a Solomon Hill type (with possibly a better jump shot at this stage), who will thrive under Sean Miller’s tutelage.

Alex Barcello

Barcello is a true point guard with a nice jump shot, giving him the ability to stretch the floor while also creating opportunities for his teammates off the dribble. His hard-nosed defensive style is reminiscent of T.J. McConnell, plus Barcello’s athleticism is nothing to scoff at.

Barcello told Arizona Desert Swarm after he committed that UA “felt like home. Being around all the players and the coaching staff and being in the environment with all the students there, it felt right for me."

Brandon Randolph

With one of the best jump shots in his class, Brandon Randolph is here for one reason: to knock down 3s. Obviously he can do more than that, but his primary strength will be keeping defenses honest and allowing post players (like DeAndre Ayton) more space to operate.

Randolph is also an explosive athlete who will be able to make an impact on both ends of the court with this length and size. He’ll need to bulk up, but that’s typical for most high school guards.

DeAndre Ayton

This is the first time Sean Miller has landed the nation’s top player and while rumors will continue to swirl regarding Ayton actually setting foot on campus, I have little reason to doubt that he will. A true 7-footer with a versatile skill-set, the Hillcrest Hoops phenom will make an impact on the offensive side right away. He hasn’t been playing basketball for that long and his potential is sky high. We can only wait and see how good he’ll get under this coaching staff.
