Stanford vs. Arizona: Wildcats’ Players of the Game

Another Pac-12 loss for Arizona.

It wasn’t a great night for the Arizona Wildcats, taking yet another loss in Pac-12 play, dropping to 0-5 on the season, 2-6 overall. It also wasn’t easy to find players of the game in all three phases.

Offense: Samajie Grant

This was Arizona’s worst offensive performance of the season in terms of scoring, putting up only 10 points.

No quarterback could find success behind the offensive line. Brandon Dawkins went 5-of-15 for 116 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Anu Solomon went 0-for-3 and lost a fumble. Khalil Tate got the final drive and went 0-for-2, but had a 19-yard rush.

But the Samajie Grant running back experiment wasn’t terrible. Rich Rodriguez said that he’s still learning the position and he will remain the starting running back. Grant finished with 19 carries for 64 yards. His numbers also would have been much better if he didn’t backtrack for a 20+ yard loss early in the game.

It should be more concerning that Zach Green still doesn’t have trust after being in the program for three years.

Defense: Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and Paul Magloire

Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles seemed to be everywhere for the defense. He finished the game with five solo tackles — eight total — and a pass breakup. Still only a sophomore, Flannigan-Fowles will continue to be a leader for this defense.

Paul Magloire also had himself a nice night. He registered eight tackles, a sack, and two tackles for loss. The staff has been sending him in on the quarterback off the edge and he’s created a lot of pressure for the defense.

The defensive line also deserves a lot of credit as well. Justin Belknap is an honorable mention, who still isn’t on scholarship.

Special Teams: Josh Pollack

Pollack had to punt a lot with the stagnant offense. He was sent out seven times and accumulated 275 yards, including a long of 53 yards. He averaged 39.3 yards a kick and pinned one inside the 20-yard line.

He also knocked out a 27-yard field goal in the third quarter.
