What to make of the conference now?

It was yet another bizarre weekend in the Pac-12. The Washington Huskies have now established themselves as the overall favorite, and the Colorado Buffaloes are now on top in the jumbled up Pac-12 South.

Washington defeats Stanford 44-6

The mayhem got started on Friday night as the Huskies absolutely decimated the Cardinal in Seattle. UW outgained Stanford 424-213 on the night, and held Christian McCaffrey to just 49 yards rushing and 30 yards receiving. After looking not so great against Arizona the week before, Washington has made itself the conference’s favorite moving forward.

Colorado defeats Oregon State 47-6

CU is dangerous this year, and did not mess around against OSU, who the Buffs have shared the cellar with for a while now. Even without Sefo Liufau, Colorado has not missed a beat thanks to the performance of backup QB Steven Montez. Montez was 19/27 for 293 yards and 3 TDs in this one as the Buffs took the outright lead in the Pac-12 South.

Cal defeats Utah 28-23

In the conference’s only close game of the weekend, the Utes got jobbed at the end of the game by the refs, essentially losing two timeouts that they shouldn’t have. This allowed for the Bears to make a goalline stand, and hold off Utah to pick up yet another big home win this year.

Washington State defeats Oregon 51-33

So long Mark Helfrich. It was nice knowing you. The Cougars now have a two-game winning streak over the Ducks in football, and now UW will look to end its lengthy losing streak against Oregon this weekend. We are staring down the real possibly of UO being 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the Pac-12 a week from now.

USC defeats Arizona State 41-20

Arizona schools had a rough go of it in SoCal on Saturday evening. and honestly, I think you could say that the Pac-12 South is still going to have to go through Los Angeles. The Trojans looked pretty good, and Manny Wilkins suffered an injury for ASU. USC hosts Colorado this coming weekend, and that game will show us what the Pac-12 South really looks like this year.
