Arizona Women’s Tennis: Wildcat Invitational Day 1 Roundup

The Wildcats advanced one singles player and one doubles team into Saturday’s main draw semifinals

Arizona Wildcats women’s tennis senior Samantha Czarniak went 2-0 on Friday to make the Wildcat Invitational semifinals. The UA doubles team of Camila Wesbrooks and Alexandra Taylor advanced as well.

Singles:

Samantha Czarniak

Round 1: Defeated Marta Lewandowska (Northern Arizona) 6-2, 6-2

Round 2: Defeated Charleen Tiwari (Texas-San Antonio) (ret.)

Czarniak was up 3-1 in the third and final set when Tiwari experienced a hand injury. After taking a medical timeout to receive treatment from the trainer, the Roadrunner was able to fight on for one more game before the injury got worse, forcing her to retire from the match.

In Saturday’s semifinal, Czarnariak will play Texas-San Antonio’s Miriam Rosell Canudas, who has yet to drop a set this tournament.

Round 2: Fell to [3] Ludivine Burgeuiere (New Mexico) 1-6, 4-6

Round 1: Defeated Tomasetti/Lewandowska (Northern Arizona) 6-1

Wesbrooks/Taylor will play Rosell/Kato (Texas-San Antonio) in the semifinal on Saturday.

Round 1: Fell to Burgeuiere/Copas (New Mexico) 3-6

Round 1: Defeated Maria Paula Medina (UTEP) 6-2, 6-1

Round 2: Defeated Sonia Madronal (Texas-San Antonio) 6-2, 6-2

Saturday, Thomas will play in the Blue Flight semifinal against the draw’s fourth seed, UTEP’s Raven Bennet.

Round 1: Fell to Kylee Kato (Texas-San Antonio) 3-6, 3-6

Consolation Bracket: Defeated Rebecca Keijzerwaard (New Mexico State) 6-4, 7-6

Round 1: Defeated Eli Arnaudova (New Mexico State) 6-1, 6-0

Elena Schneider

Round 1: Fell to [2] Haley Rochin (Northern Arizona) 5-7, 4-6

Consolation Bracket: Defeated Gabrielle Joyce (New Mexico State) 6-4, 6-1

No. 1 doubles seeds Thomas/Cohen had a first-round bye and advanced automatically to the semifinal round. There, they will face Rochin/Granville of Northern Arizona.
