Arizona Wildcats in the NFL: Scooby Wright and Will Parks survive cuts

Scooby Wright and Will Parks survive cuts, other former Wildcats were not so lucky

With preseason complete, NFL teams had to have their rosters cut to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.

With quite a few former Wildcats on the bubble, here’s how things played out:

Scooby Wright III makes the Cleveland Browns

After being picked up in the seventh round in the 2016 NFL Draft, Wright made the cut for the Browns.

Due to his past injuries and combine scores, a lot of scouts and people in general doubted him. Well the Browns took a “risk” and ended up drafting Scooby. The Browns picked up a hard working player and, in my opinion, one of the steals of the draft. Scooby had four tackles and one sack, including a goal line stop for the Browns on Thursday in their final preseason game.

Will Parks makes the Denver Broncos

Parks is another player who made the cut. He has worked extremely hard this preseason and has impressed the Broncos’ staff. I expect him to possibly see some playing time this year. Parks had two tackles for the Broncos on Thursday night.

Ka’Deem Carey makes the Chicago Bears

Carey has been referred to as a very vocal leader both on the field and in the locker room this offseason. He battled injuries the beginning of preseason, but finished well. He had seven carries for 19 yards and a touchdown on Thursday night.

Marquis Flowers makes the Cincinnati Bengals

Flowers has had a quiet but productive preseason. He had four tackles and a forced fumble Thursday night.

Nick Foles makes the Kansas City Chiefs

After being released by the Rams before preseason started, the Chiefs signed Foles and he has made the most of it. He is second on the depth chart at QB for Kansas City. He did not play Thursday night.

Nick Folk makes the New York Jets

Not surprising to see Folk make the cut. He is a talented and consistent kicker which is something the Jets might need this year.

Rob Gronkowski makes the New England Patriots

Enough said.

Robert Golden makes the Pittsburgh Steelers

Golden made the 53-man roster for the Steelers. He has had a strong preseason and had a strong regular season last year so this isn’t much of a surprise.

Earl Mitchell makes the Miami Dolphins

Mitchell has had some issues with injuries this preseason but made the cut nonetheless. He should be playing plenty come Sundays.

Brooks Reed makes the Atlanta Falcons

Reed made the cut for the Falcons again and had a strong preseason.

Trevin Wade makes the New York Giants

Wade pretty much secured his spot on the team when he intercepted Tom Brady Thursday night. He finished the night with four tackles, one interception, and two pass breakups.

Now we get to those who didn’t make the cut.

David Richards cut by Los Angeles Rams

The receiver needed to impress the Rams’ staff but was clearly unable to do so.

Austin Hill cut by the Los Angeles Rams

Hill is another receiver that was cut by the Rams. Needless to say “Hard Knocks” will not be the same without him on there.

Cayleb Jones cut by the Philadelphia Eagles

Jones survived the cuts during preseason week three but not this week. He still has the opportunity to make the Eagles’ practice squad though.

Reggie Gilbert cut by the Green Bay Packers

I thought Gilbert had a pretty strong preseason, but the Packers apparently didn’t think it was good enough. It’s possible he could still make a practice squad somewhere.

Dan Pettinato cut by Houston Texans

Pettinato also might find his way to a practice squad somewhere.
