Arizona football recruiting: Three-star defensive end Odua Isibor update

Arizona could be closing in one of the top talents in the state

While the Arizona Wildcats headed up to Phoenix this weekend for the Cactus Kickoff, I made my way back home to check out two Arizona prospects in the Knight Showdown, pitting Higley High against St. Mary’s.

After the game, I caught up with St. Mary’s defensive end Odua Isibor, a 6-foot-6, 220 pound 3-star prospect. The Arizona staff feels like he could easily add 40 pounds to his frame. Right now, he’s using just pure athleticism at the high school level to dominate opponents.

Isibor currently holds offers to Arizona State, Oregon, Texas A&M and USC, among others. He is ranked just outside the top 500 overall, 26th among all defensive ends in the nation.

"A&M, Oregon, ASU, Oregon State, Illinois, Arizona and Colorado all hit me pretty hard. Yale probably the hardest," Isibor said about his recruitment. This is now the second time he has mentioned Yale being the most active in his recruitment.

Academics are going to play a large role in the recruitment. He is very interested in the medical programs offered at Arizona and likes the idea of staying in-state.

Defensive line coach Vince Amey was on the St. Mary’s sideline watching the potential Arizona Wildcat.

"They know exactly what they want and the exact players that they are looking for and Coach Amey is looking for pass rushers on that line," Isibor said about Arizona.

While I couldn’t get an answer on his timeline to commit, when we last spoke he said he wanted to commit beginning to mid-season, after he takes his official visits. So far it looks like Yale, Texas A&M and Oregon will be three of his official visits.

While Isibor didn’t really give me much of a lean towards any school, I have made my Crystal Ball prediction for Arizona. I have been confident that Arizona will land one of the two in-state defensive ends, My-King Johnson being the other. I’ve always had a better feeling about Isibor though.

The fact that Isibor didn’t mention Stanford or USC in his list of schools recruiting him the hardest makes me feel pretty good about Arizona at this point as well.

Yale might actually be a strong contender, maybe even Texas A&M, but Arizona gives him proximity to home, opportunities to play early and a top-notch education, checking off many of his boxes.
