Arizona football: Former four-star recruit Marquis Ware medically retires from football

Ware, Arizona's top-rated recruit in 2014, finishes with one career tackle

Arizona Wildcats linebacker and former four-star recruit Marquis Ware has medically retired from football, according to Scout's Jason Scheer.

Ware, Arizona's top recruit in the 2014 class, was rated as the 125th player in ESPN's Top 300, as well as the 15th-best linebacker in the entire country coming out of Los Angeles' Salesian High School.

However, the highly-touted recruit never made an impact — and hardly saw the field — at Arizona, compiling just one tackle in his career.

Part of the reason Ware was unable to live up to his recruiting hype is because of a shoulder injury he suffered during his senior year of high school.

The injury was so severe that Ware couldn't even bench press a bar with no weights on it when he arrived at Arizona.

It led Ware to redshirt his freshman year (2014), and he never was able to regain his form after. He had just one tackle in two games in 2015, and was nowhere to be found on UA's depth chart heading into 2016.

Meanwhile, it's been a similar story for Ware's high school teammate, Jamardre Cobb.

Cobb, also recruited as linebacker and rated as Arizona's third-best prospect in the 2014 class, wasn't able to break into Arizona's linebacker rotation, and was subsequently moved to fullback where he currently plays.

Like Ware, Cobb had injury issues of his own, as he had a hamstring injury during his first season at Arizona.

Unfortunately, recruits don't always pan out at the next level — whether it be for injuries or other reasons — and the Salesian High School products are certainly a reminder of that.
