Arizona football recruiting: Three-star prospect Jalen Harris verbally commits to Wildcats

The 2017 class is now up to 25 members

The Arizona Wildcats’ 2017 recruiting class grew to 25 names on Friday afternoon when Jalen Harris, a three-star defensive end out of Desert Ridge (Mesa, AZ) tweeted out his verbal commitment to the program.

The news broke on my timeline by his lead recruiter, Charlie Ragle, retweeting it, then waiting the required 60 seconds before tweeting this.

Jalen Harris’ dad Sean played linebacker for Arizona from 1991-94. Back in 2013, Anthony Gimino named Sean the 32nd-best player in the history of Arizona football.

Back to Jalen though. According to 247Sports’ Composite rankings, he is the 8th-best player in the state of Arizona, and 519th overall in the 2017 class. At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, it seems like a pretty good chance that Harris will end up playing more of a linebacker role for the Wildcats.

Our Brandon Combs recently chatted with Harris, where the prospect said "They've been talking to me about coming in as an outside linebacker or defensive end."

This now brings Arizona’s 2017 class up to 25 verbal commitments, and fall camp is just one day old. This is a ridiculous number, and one that will cause some movement late in the recruiting cycle that we haven’t really seen from this coaching staff before.

Here’s a look at Harris’ junior year highlights from Desert Ridge.
