Arizona basketball: Wildcats announce Talbott Denny is out for the season after tearing ACL

Denny could apply for a sixth year of eligibility and return next season

Last week it was revealed that Arizona Wildcats guard Talbott Denny injured his knee at the rec center and was wearing a knee brace.

On Wednesday, it was made official that Denny has torn his ACL and medial meniscus and will miss the 2016-17 season.

Denny, who missed all but one game with Lipscomb last year, has already used a redshirt year and will have now to apply for a sixth-year hardship exemption.

Considering his injury history, he has a good chance of getting it, but it's not exactly a given.

For the Wildcats, losing Denny likely won't have a major impact on the team — as he was planning to be used in a Matt Korchek-like role in terms of minutes — but it still lessens the team's depth, which needless to say is always valuable.

It's unfortunate for Denny since he grew up in Tucson and as an Arizona fan, and this was going to be his chance to play for the team he rooted for growing up.

Hopefully the NCAA grants him a sixth year and he can do so next season.
