Sonoran Hot Reads: NCAA recommends less contact in practice during season
Are we moving towards no hitting throughout college football during the year?
As people try to reduce the risk of injuries in the game of football, namely concussions, the NCAA came out with a new rules recommendation regarding full contact practices during the season. The proposition is to drop the number of live-contact practices from two to one during each week of the regular season. This isn’t entirely new to the sport. Back in March, the Ivy League voted to totally eliminate hitting during the season after a revolutionary system at Dartmouth produced positive results for the Mean Green. Frankly, if all teams can come up with something similar to what Dartmouth does, I don’t see a down side to it. Arizona has greatly reduced the amount of hitting in practices the past few seasons, as has the rest of college football. Limiting hitting to just Tuesdays or Wednesdays could keep the team fresher late in the year
