Arizona football recruiting: 3-star Sabino athlete Drew Dixon verbally commits to Wildcats

Rich Rodriguez lands a versatile Tucson product

The Arizona Wildcats have now landed their 10th commitment of the 2017 class, after Drew Dixon, 3-star athlete out of local Sabino High School, pledged his commitment to the program. Dixon checks in at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds, and can play quarterback, wide receiver or safety. It seems likely that he'll be added as a wide receiver.

This is an expected commitment, especially after Arizona was his first offer; Dixon grew up a Wildcat fan.

Since his first offer, he had captured the attention of several other schools including Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico, New Mexico State and San Jose State. It seemed as if he was in no rush for his decision -- especially with Washington supposedly coming into the mix -- but has now put an end to his process.

Dixon has just been ranked by 247Sports as a 3-star athlete ranked 70th at his position, with a .8444 grade, making him the sixth-ranked commit of the ten Arizona currently holds. With this commitment, Arizona would jump back into the top 20 of the national rankings, according to the 247Sports class calculator. The Wildcats' class is currently ranked 27th.

I like this commitment because Dixon is an extremely versatile athlete with great size in Rich Rodriguez' very own backyard. This recruiting cycle is heavy with in-state talent and Dixon can only help attract more to Tucson.

At Sabino, he threw for 1,490 yards and 20 touchdowns, to go along with 507 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns on the season.

His junior year highlights are below.
