College basketball recruiting: Josh Jackson commits to Kansas over Arizona and Michigan State

The national nightmare is over

After months of speculation, and false alarms about his college announcement, the nation's No. 1 player in the 2016 recruiting class has finally made his decision public.

Josh Jackson will play for the Kansas Jayhawks next season.

Jackson's top three also included the Arizona Wildcats and Michigan State Spartans. It's kind of impressive how close to the vest he played this whole thing, considering that he has said he's known which school he was going to choose for a couple of weeks now.

Now with Jackson officially out of the picture, Arizona fans should be focused on Terrance Ferguson, who arguably out-performed Jackson at this weekend's Nike Hoop Summit. Ferguson set a new game record for three-pointers made with seven, was awarded MVP, and looked like the most athletic prospect out there.

The official signing period opens on Wednesday, when Arizona is expected to ink Rawle Alkins and Kobi Simmons, along with the already-signed Lauri Markkanen. Sean Miller has said he plans on adding "6 or 7" players this year, so it'll be interesting to see what mix of high school recruits and grad transfers make up that pretty substantial number.

Also, after Allonzo Trier decided to return for his sophomore season, that makes losing out on Jackson less painful. This 2016 team is still loaded with talent, and there are still plenty of big additions that Sean Miller could make.
