Arizona football recruiting: Kurtis Brown schedules unofficial visit to Tucson

Arizona could be on the verge of landing a huge defensive lineman

The Arizona Wildcats coaching staff will have a very large visitor on campus come March 25th with Kurtis Brown, a 3-star defensive tackle checking in at 6-foot-3, 280lbs. Brown hails from Liberty High School (Bakersfield, CA), ranked 54th among all defensive tackles in the nation, 84th overall in the state of California, regardless of position.

I got a chance to speak with Brown about his recruitment process and upcoming trip to the desert.

"I was super pumped to get the offer from Arizona," Kurtis Brown said about his offer. He had been talking to the staff about a week prior to receiving his offer, primarily to the new defensive line coach Vince Amey. He's also been talking to redshirt freshman safety Anthony Mariscal, who had some crossover with Kurtis during his time at Liberty High School.

Brown has been attracting attention from the Mountain West, a couple of schools in the Big 12 and SEC, as well as the entirety of the Pac-12. He currently holds offers to Arizona and Washington State. But for now, Arizona seems to be in good standing.

"I love the program itself," he said when asked about what he likes at Arizona. "I think Coach Rodriguez is changing the culture at Arizona and they have really good players in the 2016 class and already having a great 2017 class."

"Arizona will always be up towards the top because of the connection I have with Coach Amey," he added. "I like how he believes in me and my talents and believes I can do big things at Arizona."

A great connection is exactly what Brown will be looking for when it comes to deciding on a school, as well as early playing time. The connection with Amey is there, and with the current state of the defensive front, he could be in line for early playing time.

"My plan is to decide in the summer time but if I'm not ready by mid-summer, I'm gonna wait till after the season," Brown said about his timetable to commit. But given Arizona's success rate with guys on campus, and where Arizona stands with Brown, this wouldn't be surprising to see him commit during his visit, despite his plan to commit in the summer.
