Arizona basketball: Wildcats grateful for full week off before stretch run

A scheduling anomaly may be exactly what the doctor ordered for Arizona this year

It's rare that a college basketball team gets an entire calendar week off as we approach March Madness. But that's what the Arizona Wildcats are in the middle of, getting a seven day break between Wednesday's dominating win over Arizona State and the upcoming road game at Colorado.

And they're certainly not complaining about it.

"We have to make it to our advantage," Sean Miller said after the ASU game. "A lot of teams would love to have what we have in front of us. It gives us a chance to be mentally and physically alive."

"Recharge our batteries, making sure that when we show up at Colorado that we're fresh and that we're locked in. We're really going to try and look at that, first and foremost, that freshness aspect. And then, no question, take this week to improve and get ready for maybe two of our toughest games all season, at Utah and at Colorado."

"We're really going to have to repair over this next week and get ready for the game," Kaleb Tarczewski added.

"It's important to keep sharp and take care of everything we're supposed to do," Allonzo Trier tacked on.

It certainly benefits the older guys who have had more minutes put on them throughout the season due to injuries, the Elliott Pitts situation and more.

"Gabe York in particular," Miller pointed out. "Where he can be physically on Wednesday could be a great place when you consider he's just played three games in six days as a senior."

"I think it'll be nice in two ways," Tarczewski added. "Some of our older guys and even our younger guys can hopefully have fresh legs going into next week's game. And another way, we can really lock in, prepare and get better over this next week for obviously the big games coming up."

"It'll obviously be a good situation for us."
