Sonoran Hot Reads: Rich Rodriguez talks defensive vision

A look into the future of Arizona defensive schemes

Rich Rodriguez sat down with a couple of local writers on Tuesday to talk about everything that's going on with the Arizona Wildcats right now. Of course, the most interesting things had to do with the ongoing search for new defensive coaches. Rodriguez told Michael Lev that he will interview candidates this weekend at the AFCA convention, but also hinted that the 3-3-5 may not be going away. He said more of the same to Anthony Gimino, but also said that he'll be looking to hire someone to work within the parameters that he sets on the defensive side of the ball. For everyone who thought the 3-3-5 was going away with Casteel, I wouldn't say that's exactly a lock right now.

- Gimino had some other notes, including the possibility of Derrick Turituri missing the 2016 season as well. And defensive lineman Anthony Fotu will be suspended for the first half of 2016 because his suspension was for one year

- Despite the lack of assistant coaches, RichRod is offering players left and right. One of them is Emmanuel Beal, and another is Kyzir White, both of whom happen to be the teammates of recent decommit Kapri Doucet

- Scooby Wright III, Cayleb Jones and Paul Magloire were all named to ESPN's Pac-12 All-Bowl team

- Speaking of Jones and Wright, the receiver was named the biggest sleeper and ninth overall of receiving prospects by Bleacher Report. Wright was the biggest faller and also 9th at his position

- Reggie Gilbert reflects on his time at Arizona and some of his memories

Basketball

- Allonzo Trier has moved up to 8th in C.L. Brown's freshman tracker. A lot of Pac-12 names show up on this list

- Arizona will play Grand Canyon in McKale next year. More on this later

- Cal lost to Oregon. The Bears were second in our Pac-12 power rankings this week. House of Sparky had them high as well, but not as high as Arizona

- Trevor Hoffman came up 34 votes shy of being elected in the Baseball Hall of Fame on his first try, but he was classy about falling short:
