Arizona vs. ASU: Wildcats guards lead the way in victory over Sun Devils

It was a show led by the guards on Sunday afternoon

Sunday's victory in Tempe over the Arizona State Sun Devils showcased the depth and strength of the Arizona Wildcats' back court. Gabe York, Allonzo Trier, and Kadeem Allen combined for 54 of Arizona's 94 points, shooting 55 percent from the field. As Pac-12 play comes into swing, this trifecta will be crucial for Sean Miller's squad as Arizona travels to Los Angeles to take on UCLA and USC.

Gabe York caught fire in the second half, knocking down a trio of three-pointers, going 4-for-7 from deep throughout the day. In addition, York went 8-for-10 from the charity stripe, ending with a team-high 22 points. Freshman Allonzo Trier had 20 points on Sunday, and continues to look better and better with each contest. His ability to drive to the rim and finish is a huge advantage to Sean Miller's offense if the 'Cats want to make a run in the NCAA Tournament this March.

Arizona's defense late in the game also showed to be stout as the Sun Devils committed three key turnovers in the final two minutes. The Wildcats did a tremendous job of collapsing in the paint when the Sun Devils drove to the hole. Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Kadeem Allen created problems on defense, having one steal each.

Arizona's business trip to Southern California kicks off this Thursday, as they take on the UCLA Bruins, who like Arizona, have had a tough schedule against national powerhouses such as Kentucky and North Carolina. Before the Wildcats head back to Tucson, they take on a USC Trojans squad Saturday, that is 12-3 on the year.
