Pac-12 Basketball Power Rankings: Oregon jumps Arizona for top spot
The Ducks move into the top spot
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, the Arizona Wildcats lost a game, and went to overtime against a not-very-good Santa Clara team. And the California Golden Bears fell apart against San Diego State, then followed that up with a loss to Richmond.
With that, last week's top-two teams both fell, and there's a new team on top. We use golf scoring, with first place receiving one point, second place two points, and so on. With six voters this week, the results are intriguing:
Ranking - change in () | Team | Points |
1 (+2) | Oregon Ducks | 7 |
2 (-1) | Arizona Wildcats | 12 |
3 (+1) | Utah Utes | 20 |
4 (+2) | Colorado Buffaloes | 29 |
5 (+3) | USC Trojans | 33 |
6 (-4) | California Golden Bears | 34 |
7 (+3) | Washington State Cougars | 46 |
8 (-3) | Oregon State Beavers | 47 |
9 (0) | UCLA Bruins | 54 |
10 (-3) | Washington Huskies | 55 |
11 (0) | Arizona State Sun Devils | 60 |
12 (-1) | Stanford Cardinal | 71 |
So we now have a few pairs of teams that are very close in our points system. USC and Cal are almost interchangeable, as well as WSU/OSU and UCLA/UW. Stanford has solidified itself at the bottom of the conference for now.
Oregon State won the award for the team that we have no idea what to make of them. The Beavers were voted as high as 4th, and as low as 11th, giving them their eighth place finish overall. WSU was also anywhere from 5-12. November basketball is weird.
Is there a team that you think we're significantly underrating or overrating? Let us know!
