Arizona football: Carter Hehr, Jared Baker, and Jake Matthews make Pac-12 All-Academic teams

Though Cardale Jones may say otherwise, student-athletes go to school not only to play a sport, but also to get an education and, ideally, graduate. It's always cool to see those athletes get recognized not only for how well they play football, but for how well they're doing in school. And this year, the Arizona Wildcats football team had a number of players who did well in both, with eight players being recognized by the Pac-12 for their academic performance.

In order to be recognized by the conference, a player has to maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 and appear in 50% or more of his team's games.

Carter Hehr, a sophomore safety, was the Wildcats' lone representative on the 2015 Pac-12 All-Academic First Team. Carter is a marketing major with a 3.91 (!!!) GPA.

The Wildcats had two members of the All-Academic Second Team: running back Jared Baker (who maintained a 3.31 GPA while majoring in Sustainable Built Environments) and linebacker Jake Matthews (who maintained a 3.39 GPA while majoring in Pre-Neuroscience & Cognitive Sciences).

The Wildcats also had five players the conference recognized as "honorable mention": Cam Denson, Tony Ellison, Alex King, Abraham Mendivil, and Casey Skowron.

By the way, Arizona State had seven players recognized by the conference (two on the All-Academic First Team, two on the All-Academic Second Team, and three honorable mention). Overall, that's one less than the Wildcats. But who's counting?

Congratulations to all of these guys, and here's hoping we can see even more Wildcats on the All-Academic teams in the future!
