Arizona football countdown: 12 days, Anu Solomon showing off improved arm strength
He really looks like a whole new quarterback
We have now entered the 12 Days of Arizona Football status on our countdown, and luckily for us, the Arizona Wildcats held a scrimmage Saturday morning in which we got to see a lot of starters show off, especially Anu Solomon.
Solomon connected on a couple of big plays. He aired one out down the left sideline for Cayleb Jones for a huge gain, and he also hit Nate Phillips on a seam route for a 50-yard touchdown.
And by all accounts, this has been a common theme throughout fall camp.
"I think his arm is a little stronger," Rich Rodriguez said after the scrimmage. "But I think it's also he's more decisive too, because he's more sure about what everybody's doing, and so it looks crisper at times. But I think his grasp is exactly where we want to be at this point in camp."
"I think he came into camp in good shape," coach continued. "I think he's working hard, I think he's healthy, and I'm pleased with his progress."
"I think he's played well," junior wide receiver Nate Phillips added. "I think his control is his biggest improvement."
"His touch overall on all passes has been really well throughout camp," Cayleb Jones chimed in with. "He's a lot more patient now, and we both know coverages better so it makes it a lot better."
It has been extremely apparent that Solomon's deep ball is much better than it was last year. In fact, all the quarterbacks aren't overthrowing nearly as much as they were in camp last year, but with an added threat of long passes down the sideline to Cayleb Jones or seam routes to Nate Phillips and Samajie Grant, all of the sudden, this offense gets a lot scarier for opposing defenses.
