Is 34 points the magic number?

It's no secret that Arizona runs a high-tempo offense with Rich Rodriguez. The Arizona Wildcats ran over 80 plays per game in 2014, good for 6th-best in the nation.

Arizona played the 17th-toughest schedule in the nation last year and came away with 10 wins, with most of the success relying heavily on the offensive production. Arizona was 7-0 when scoring more than 34 points last season. Averaging over 460 yards a game, Arizona scored a total of 484 points on the season, good for 15th in the nation, and second in the Pac-12, behind only Oregon. The Ducks dropped 681 points.

With Anu Solomon another year wiser (hopefully) and Nick Wilson fully healthy, to go along with a slew of receivers in Cayleb Jones, Trey Griffey, Samajie Grant, David Richards and a healthy Nate Phillips, Arizona should put up comparable numbers in what seems to be an easier schedule this season.

Of course, there are times where the offense is sluggish and at a standstill. We saw this in the first half of the Fiesta Bowl and Cal games, as well as the entire UCLA and Pac-12 Championship game. Hopefully the extra year of experience prevents that from occurring in 2015.
