Arizona baseball: Mathew Troupe transferring to Cal State Northridge

Arizona will lose another crucial member of the pitching staff.

Mathew Troupe, the closer of the 2012 National Championship Arizona team, will be finishing his college career at Cal State Northridge he told me on Saturday.

It's been a tough couple of years for Mathew Troupe, struggling with Tommy John Surgery recovery and then a shoulder injury this season. In total, he's pitched just a total of four innings the past two seasons, recording just one out in 2015.

In 2012 and 2013, Troupe recorded a total of 15 saves for Arizona while posting a 12-1 record. He led Arizona relievers with 44 strikeouts in the 2012 season.

He also was on the mound when Arizona clinched the National Championship, pitching the final 1 1/3 innings of the second game against South Carolina. He also earned the win in the 12-inning game against Florida earlier in that College World Series.

Troupe had several options this summer. Either stay at Arizona, take a job offer in Georgia, or this, which is transfer. And especially transfer to Cal State Northridge, as that's where he went to high school.

Hopefully Troupe will be able to find good health, regain the stuff he had in both 2012 and 2013, and find himself getting picked in the 2016 MLB Draft.

Thanks for everything Mat, and good luck at CSUN.
