Friday Night Lights: Louisiana commitments shine for Arizona

High school football is plowing full-steam ahead all around the country. This past weekend was no exception, even with a hurricane making it’s way to and eventually making landfall in, Louisiana.

With that said, there were numerous Arizona Wildcat commits in action. Let’s take a look at how they fared in their respective contests.

Tyrese Johnson, WR, KIPP Booker T. Washington Lions

  • Result: Victory over Cox, 45-0
  • Record: 2-0
  • Game Stats: Unknown
  • Season Stats: Unknown
  • Notes: I wasn’t able to find any stats from Johnson’s game on Thursday, however, he did have two receiving scores based on game clips. See these awesome clips below, including Johnson throwing a would-be tackler off him and scoring a touchdown.

Montrell Johnson, RB, De La Salle Cavaliers

  • Result: Victory over Amite, 48-0
  • Record: 2-0
  • Game Stats: Unknown
  • Season Stats: 8 car, 248 yds, 3 TD (last update: October 7th)
  • Notes: I wasn’t able to find full stats for Johnson, however, I was able to find out he had another three rushing touchdowns and a score through the air. You can see some of highlights from @jethro517 on Twitter below.

Kevon Garcia, DE/LB, Dekaney Wildcats

  • Result: Loss to Spring, 55-17
  • Record: 0-2
  • Game Stats: 11 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 PBU
  • Season Stats: 23 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 PBU, 1 fumble recovery
  • Notes: Garcia had another very productive game for the Wildcats. One thing that has been made abundantly clear by watching his film, at least to me, is his ability to shed blocks and work his way through the offensive line into the backfield. I have grown more impressed with Garcia the more I watch him.

Ja’Marian Peterson, DE, De La Salle Cavaliers

  • Result: Victory over Amite, 48-0
  • Record: 2-0
  • Game Stats: Unknown
  • Season Stats: Unknown
  • Notes: I was unable to find any stats for Peterson. However, there is a clip from @jethro517 on Twitter that shows him manhandling a ball carrier like he’s making pizza dough. Enjoy.

Javione Carr, DB, Sam Houston Texans

  • Result: Victory over Irving, 49-27
  • Record: 2-1
  • Game Stats: 22 tackles, 3 PBU, 1 forced fumble
  • Season Stats: 48 tackles, 3 PBU, 1 forced fumble
  • Notes: Carr continues to showcase what he will be bringing to Arizona, and it is something to see. He plays a lot bigger than his size and I, personally, find that to be an important attribute for a defensive player. He hits players with a level of violence and aggression that makes him incredibly effective. I would like to see him wrap up a little more, but if he hits people as hard as he does, with more weight on him, that might not be a huge problem. Oh and he went off. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a player get over 20 tackles, much less a defensive back.

KC Ossai, LB, Oak Ridge War Eagles

  • Result: Victory over Humble, 28-17
  • Record: 3-0
  • Game Stats: Unknown
  • Season Stats: Unknown
  • Notes: I was unable to find any stats or video of Ossai.

Dalton Johnson, DB, Katy Tigers

  • Result: Victory over Seven Lakes, 59-3
  • Record: 3-0
  • Game Stats: Unknown
  • Season Stats: Unknown
  • Notes: I was unable to find any stats or video of Johnson.

Colby Powers, TE, Klein Collins Tigers

  • Result: Victory over George Ranch, 28-21
  • Record: 1-1
  • Game Stats: None
  • Season Stats: 3-for-5, 39 yds, 0 TD, 0 INT; 7 car, 37 yds, 2 TD
  • Notes: Powers did not play for the Tigers this past week due to a shoulder injury he suffered against North Shore the previous week. He did show up on a local interview with his arm in a sling. The good news is he got an awesome bobblehead of himself. Take a look.

Jakelyn Morgan, DB, Tyler Legacy Raiders

  • Result: Loss to Longview, 37-14
  • Record: 2-1
  • Game Stats: 8 tackles
  • Season Stats: 13 tackles, 1 PBU (incomplete, missing a game)
  • Notes: Morgan did a good job this past weekend making life hard on wide receivers. He didn’t get any PBUs but he was able to force the receivers to the sideline and make catching the ball way more difficult. He recorded almost double-digit tackles in a solid performance for him personally, while his Raider team struggled.

Kyion Grayes, WR, Chandler Wolves

  • Result: Victory over Pinnacle, 64-0
  • Record: 2-0
  • Game Stats: 4 rec, 90 yds, 2 TD
  • Season Stats: 9 rec, 228 yds, 6 TD
  • Notes: Grayes had another strong outing during the Wolves’ shellacking of Pinnacle this past weekend. He again proved how he is one of the best receivers in the state regardless of class. He hauled in another two touchdowns while proving how dynamic of a playmaker he is with the ball in his hands.
