Arizona Wildcats coach Kevin Sumlin announced after Friday’s practice that redshirt sophomore running back Bam Smith, senior defensive lineman JB Brown and walk-on linebacker Jack Koceman have opted out of the 2020 season.

By Pac-12 and NCAA rule, their scholarships must be honored while they are away from the team.

Sumlin also announced that sophomore wide receiver Jalen Johnson has been suspended indefinitely for violating COVID-19 protocols and team rules.

Smith was Arizona’s fifth-leading rusher last season, logging 203 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries (6.0 YPC). He also caught 12 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns

Brown has been one of Arizona’s best defensive linemen over the past three seasons, tallying 53 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. He was expected to be a starter.

Johnson caught seven passes for 79 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman in 2019.
