Mets draft Arizona utilityman Matthew Dyer in 4th round of 2020 MLB Draft

Redshirt junior Matthew Dyer became the second Arizona Wildcats player to be taken in the 2020 MLB Draft, going in the fourth round and 120th overall to the New York Mets on Thursday.

The slot value for that spot is roughly $478,000.

Dyer hit .348 in one-plus season with the Wildcats, including .393 in 42 games in 2019 that included 20-game hit streak. He batted just .220 in the coronavirus-abbreviated 2020 campaign but was on a 6-game hit streak with three home runs and 13 RBI in that span before the season ended.

Defensively, Dyer made starts in 2020 at second base, third base, catcher and left field, while in 2019 he split time between first base and catcher with a few outfield appearances.

A Glendale native, Dyer began his college career at Oregon in 2017 before transferring to Arizona and sitting out a year.

Dyer joins catcher Austin Wells as players from the 2020 UA team to get drafted, with Wells going 28^th overall to the New York Yankees on Wednesday. Arizona also saw signee Nick Yorke, an infielder from California, get taken 17^th by the Boston Red Sox.
