As of Sunday evening, four-star wing Kerwin Walton had yet to announce his college decision even though he was supposed to make a decision Saturday.

Whenever he finally does decide where he will be taking his talents, it sounds like Arizona Wildcats fans won’t be happy. Sources close to the situation told Marcus Fuller of the Star-Tribune that “Walton and his family had been struggling late Saturday to decide between the Gophers and North Carolina.”

That said, Fuller added that “it’s unclear now, though, if Walton’s decision is down to a two-program race.” It’s really the first time during his recruitment where there has been any sort of reported frontrunner(s). There are still no Crystal Ball predictions for Walton.

Minnesota’s pursuit of Walton may have been aided by George Mason grad transfer Justin Kier committing to Georgia on Sunday afternoon, spurning Minnesota and NC State. The 6-foot-4 wing would have been competing for minutes with Walton, who has said his role as a freshman is a big factor in his decision.

Known for his sweet shooting stroke, the Hopkins, Minnesota native is the No. 99 prospect in the country.

If Arizona cannot land him, it will have to look elsewhere to fill out its final two scholarship slots. The only known target other than Walton is four-star Turkish forward Tibet Gorener, who’s also renowned for his 3-point marksmanship.
