No one will be able to say the Arizona Wildcats didn’t have chances.

Despite collecting 11 hits, seven walks and a hit batter the Wildcats managed only one run against the Houston Cougars, falling 3-1 at Hi Corbett Field on Saturday afternoon.

Arizona (9-5) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Michael Dyer but then failed to score again, leaving 13 runners on base against three Houston pitchers

Austin Wells was 4 for 5, raising his average to .396, but no other Wildcat had more than one base hit.

Quinn Flanagan (1-2) picked up the loss on the mound, allowing three runs and six hits in 5.1 innings. Relievers Ian Churchill and Peyton Price kept the Cougars’ bats in check, allowing only one hit over the final 3.2 innings.

Arizona and Houston complete their 3-game stand Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.
