With Nico Mannion widely expected to be a one-and-done, the Arizona Wildcats will need to restock at the point guard position next season.

They are currently hosting Georgetown Hoyas transfer James Akinjo on an official visit, according to Evan Daniels of 247Sports and Jeff Borzello of ESPN.

A sophomore, Akinjo averaged 13.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in 40 career games (39 starts) at Georgetown. The 6-foot guard shot 36 percent from the field, 36.1 percent from 3, and 81.2 percent from the free-throw line. He has 204 career assists to 115 turnovers.

The reigning Big East Freshman of the Year, Akinjo was the No. 90 player in his recruiting class coming out of Salesian College Prep in Richmond, California. Arizona was one of his top choices, but he opted to attend Georgetown instead.

Akinjo announced his decision to transfer seven games into his sophomore season. Gonzaga, Saint Mary’s and Oregon also seen as potential destinations for him.

“Akinjo is a quickly emerging point guard with an all-around game,” reads his 247Sports scouting report. “He’s a very good passer, who can take opponents off the dribble and create for others. He’s best scoring with his floater, but can hit open threes and get to the basket. He’s got outstanding anticipation and quick hands on defense. Akinjo is very young for the class and is a player who is getting better quickly.”

It is unclear when Akinjo will be eligible to play, but next season seems likely. He is visiting Arizona at an ideal time, as the Wildcats are hosting No. 6 Gonzaga on Saturday. An electric atmosphere is expected in McKale Center.
