The Wildcats are coming off a huge road win over Texas

Despite a resounding 83-58 road win at No. 22 Texas on Sunday, the unbeaten Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team did not crack this week’s AP Top 25.

However, they did receive 53 points in the poll, placing them as the No. 27 team in the country. Arizona has not been ranked since December 2004.

The Wildcats are 4-0 to begin the 2019-20 campaign, their other wins being over North Dakota, Chicago State, and Santa Clara. Arizona’s average margin of victory is 25.5. Counting last season’s WNIT championship run, Arizona has won 10 straight games.

Redshirt junior point guard Aari McDonald dropped a program-record 44 points on 14-of-18 shooting against the Longhorns, leading her to be named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week and espnW’s National Player of the Week. The Fresno native also scored 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting in a road win over Chicago State earlier in the week.

McDonald is averaging 25.3 points per game while shooting 60 percent from the field, picking up where she left off last season when she broke Arizona’s single-season scoring record, previously held by head coach Adia Barnes.

The Wildcats return to action Wednesday at 11 a.m. MST against Prairie View A&M before heading back on the road to face Montana on Sunday at 2 p.m. MST.

If they win both, they should find themselves in the Top 25 next week.
