Colorado could be missing 3 key players vs. Arizona

NCAA Football: Colorado at Arizona State Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Buffaloes could be missing three key players for Saturday’s Pac-12 South matchup vs. the Arizona Wildcats as both teams look to improve to 2-0 in conference play.

The Buffaloes released their injury report Tuesday and defensive lineman Mustafa Johnson (ankle), Laviska Shenault Jr. (undisclosed), and cornerback Chris Miller (knee) are all listed as day-to-day and will be game-time decisions.

All three were shaken up in last week’s win over ASU.

A 6-foot-2, 290-pound junior, Johnson has a team-high three sacks this season.

Shenault, a projected first-round pick, is the Buffs’ best receiver, hauling in 17 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns.

Miller, a starter, has an interception and pass deflection.

The good news for Colorado is it has other quality pass-catchers to turn to—like Tony Brown and K.D. Nixon—if Shenault is out. Brown has a team-high 19 catches for 301 yards and four touchdowns. Nixon has 17 catches for 295 yards and a touchdown.

Shenault missed last year’s game vs. Arizona, but the Buffaloes still had plenty of success throwing the ball in the 42-34 loss. Steven Montez, who is still Colorado’s starter, completed 27 of 42 passes for 343 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.

Arizona isn’t exactly healthy, either. The Wildcats could be without starting quarterback Khalil Tate (ankle, hamstring) and J.J. Taylor (ankle) for the second straight week.

UA coach Kevin Sumlin didn’t have much of an update on them during his weekly presser on Monday.

Unlike Colorado, Arizona does not produce a weekly injury report.
