The 2018 season was one to forget for the Arizona Wildcats in general and Khalil Tate in particular, the latter’s play greatly contributing to the former’s losing record.

While the national prognosis may not be much better for the team this fall, at least one outlet is expecting big things from the quarterback.

Pro Football Focus has ranked all 130 projected starting quarterbacks, putting Tate at No. 10 on the list. Not bad for a guy who dealt most of last season with an ankle injury that kept him from putting up his expected prolific rushing numbers but didn’t keep him from throwing 26 touchdown passes.

Here’s what PFF had to say about Tate:

Tate’s 2018 season suffered from a change in scheme and a new head coach in Kevin Sumlin. As fun a prospect that we’ve seen over the past two years, if he can return to the form that saw him as a Heisman candidate in 2017 when he utilized his legs more, the 2019 season could be much different for Wildcat faithful. His two-year rushing grade is third only behind Ohio’s Nathan Rourke and Virginia’s Bryce Perkins.

Tate is the second-highest ranked Pac-12 QB, behind Oregon’s Justin Herbert at No. 3. He’s right behind Georgia’s Jake Fromm and just ahead of Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts. Ranked 97th is Arizona State true freshman Jayden Daniels, who was just named the Sun Devils starter on Monday.
