Knicks exercise Allonzo Trier’s option for 2019-20 season

The former UA guard will earn roughly $3.5 million

Sometimes it pays to go undrafted.

The New York Knicks opted to exercise Allonzo Trier’s team option for the 2019-20 season that will pay the former Arizona Wildcats standout roughly $3.5 million. That is about the same as the No. 12 overall pick from Trier’s draft class—Miles Bridges—will earn next season.

Trier averaged 10.8 points per game in his first season with the Knicks, eighth among all rookies. He was originally signed to a two-way contract that paid him league minimum (and capped the numbers of days he could be in the NBA), but he played so well the Knicks decided to up the ante.

Nothing everything about Trier’s rookie season went smoothly. The New York Post reported that some of his veteran teammates did not like his shoot-first mentality.

“His play on the court was cancerous,” one source told the Post. “A lot of guys didn’t like the way he didn’t play team ball. He cared about himself too much. He looked guys off who were open.’’

The Knicks clearly aren’t too concerned about it.
