Arizona shut out of Pac-12 all-conference team selections

There are seemingly countless ways to quantify how bad a season it was for the Arizona Wildcats, and here’s another: it didn’t get a single player onto any of the Pac-12’s all-conference teams that were announced Monday.

The 10-player (!!) first team, five-player second team and even the four honorable mention choices did not include any Wildcats. The same goes for the league’s all-freshman and all-defensive teams, though guard Brandon Williams was the lone honorable mention listed for the all-freshman squad.

It marks the first time since 1982-83 that Arizona failed to have a first-team pick.

That’s a far cry from last season, when DeAndre Ayton and Allonzo Trier were first-team selections, with Ayton earning conference Player of the Year honors, while Dusan Ristic made the second team and Rawle Alkins was an honorable mention. Ayton also made the all-freshman and all-defensive teams.

Arizona plays USC at 12 p.m. PT Wednesday in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas. With coach Sean Miller not expecting the Wildcats to land an NIT bid, this could be the last game of the year.
